By the standards of most of the artists I knew, the feeling was that he was a greater painter than his wife, who herself was very well regarded. On one occasion when in Bucharest, I had the chance to see a retrospective exhibition of his at the National Gallery of Art, the venue itself being a recognition of his stature. He was indeed a superb painter and it is a regret to me that I was not able to obtain many of his works. Indeed I do not own a major work of his, although a smallish canvas ‘The Demon’ and a smaller one are representative of part of his style. In addition the collection includes a few small works, one of which is a fine watercolour, which were gifts to me from the Gorduz.
